River Island marketing director steps down

River Island marketing director Jill Gate has reportedly stepped down from her role and left the business with immediate effect.

Gate joined the business from Photobox in December 2020, where she held the role of interim brand director from April 2020. Prior to this, she worked in senior marketing roles for Warehouse and Oasis.

The ex-marketing director wishes to pursue new opportunities elsewhere.

The news comes a week after River Island chief executive Will Kernan stepped down after three years in his role.

Though he leaves to “pursue personal projects”, he will remain at the fashion retailer until 2023 and will work closely with chairman Clive Lewis on a handover process.

A search for Kernan’s successor is now reportedly underway.

Last month River Island also launched its first ever TV ad in the run-up to this year’s festive season, with the broadcast spot making its on-screen debut on Channel 4.

The ad – titled Don’t Let The Moment Go – followed the story of three women on a big night out that did not quite go to plan.

Celebrating the ‘joy of seizing every party moment’, the advert showcased River Island’s ‘stand-out occasion’ and ‘going-out’ looks.
