WPP’s MediaCom secures Klarna contract

Fintech firm Klarna has appointed MediaCom as its “global agency of record”, securing the deal following a competitive pitch.

The WPP subsidiary’s contract began on 1 February and ensures that it will now be responsible for the buy-now pay-later app’s media buying and planning across key markets, notably the UK, Spain, Italy and France.

Klarna’s North American media affairs will however be handled by the Publicis-owned Havas Media Group. The French firm secured the contract last December.

“With this future-facing digital brand undergoing such fast expansion, I have no doubt our expertise and experience across the network will help them see the bigger picture to drive transformation and further growth,” MediaCom global account director, James Marples said.

The news follows a highly successful 24 months for the London-based agency, which has seen it named Adweek’s Global Agency of the Year two years running.

Klarna’s global lead business-to-consumer regional marketing, Magnus Lindholm said: “In the exponential growth Klarna as a business is in, we were looking for a partner with the structure, people, tools, and capabilities to support our continued acceleration across new and existing markets.

“We are happy that MediaCom has stepped up to this challenge and look forward to a strong partnership!”
