Three suspends sponsorship with Chelsea FC

Mobile network provider, Three has temporarily suspended its sponsorship of Chelsea FC, removing the brand from club shirts and places around the stadium.

The news comes as the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, had his funds frozen by the British government. This act was a part of several sanctions held against Russian oligarchs believed to have close connections to Vladimir Putin, who launched a war on February 24.

The mobile network has deemed it wise to follow in the footsteps of many other brands that have removed and discontinued any connection to Russia.

“We recognise that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who follow their team passionately,” Three said.

“However, we feel that given the circumstances, and the Government sanction that is in place, it is the right thing to do.”

Alongside this news, fans will be further impacted by the fact that the football club will no longer be allowed to sell tickets.

As a result, only season ticket holders and fans who have already bought tickets, will be allowed to attend games.

Three added: “The best way we can support the people of Ukraine is to ensure refugees arriving in the UK from the conflict and customers currently in Ukraine can stay connected to the people who matter to them.”

“Therefore, we are offering connectivity packages to all Ukrainians arriving in the UK, and those in Ukraine.”
