Campaign spotlights England team without any migrants

If you’re on social media – chances are you’ve seen this campaign by Wonderhood Studios which re-imagines what the England teamsheet would look like without the benefit of immigration.

Not so surprisingly, the Three Lions would only be left with three players for their starting eleven. Developed by creative agency Wonderhood Studios for London’s Migration Museum, the work has since gone stratospherically viral.

The campaign will be especially poignant given the racist abuse suffered by Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho after they missed crucial penalties in a shoot-out defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

“The strategy was to get England fans talking more positively about migration by asking them to consider what might have happened to the England team without it,” said Wonderhood Studios deputy executive creative director Jack Croft.

All of the players crossed out in the poster are either immigrants themselves or children and grandchildren of migrants from nations as diverse as Nigeria, Kenya, Ireland and Jamaica.

“From the announcement of the starting lineup to our incredible five penalty takers, you can’t deny that migration is a success story for our mostly loved – and sometimes loathed – national sport,” added deputy executive creative director Stacey Bird.
